WELLS & ACCESS TO WATER

DID YOU KNOW?

MORE THAN 2.2 BILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE STILL LIVE WITHOUT ACCESS TO SAFE DRINKING WATER.

The lack of access to safe drinking water also has an impact on:

Education

There is absenteeism among children and school dropout rates, including among girls, linked to menstrual hygiene management, as many schools do not have access to basic drinking water services.

Gender equality

It is mainly young girls and women who fetch water from wells, on foot, over long distances (more than 30 minutes).

Since January 2021, 27 boreholes have been drilled in the departments of Ouémé (12), Plateau (8), Borgou (4), and Donga (2) in Benin, as well as in Baffia (1) in Cameroon, where we were requested to assist.

OUR CURRENT PROJECTS:

HD-221

15 wells, including 7 already completed in the Plateau Department (southern part of Benin)

The main source of supply is streams, rivers, backwaters, and other waterways. Consumption of this water causes many diseases, and the water dries up during the dry season.

Therefore, in order to provide the population with good quality drinking water in a sustainable manner, we opted tobuild autonomous, eco-friendly artesian wells instead of surface wells. These wells operate using a submersible pump powered by a solar energy device. This type of installation provides the population with water without any intervention.

12 wells in the department of Ouémé (in southeastern Benin)

This department, like other departments in the country, has serious problems with drinking water supply. Apart from Porto Novo, the capital, where the drinking water supply is acceptable, all other municipalities have a real need for drinking water. The population, consisting mainly of women and children, obtains water from the river and other waterways. Therefore, together with our local partners, we want to equip the villages in each municipality with a borehole averaging 60 meters deep (depending on the area) with a solar panel system.

The latter will provide residents withfree drinking water.
