TECH/CODING SCHOLARSHIP
CODING
Facilitating access to digital technology training for young Beninese people who would otherwise be unable to access it due to lack of resources.
Access to equipment, electricity, and the internet are allbarriers to thedigitalinclusionof disadvantaged groups.
Few young people in Benin have access to formal educationin computer science and robotics, with most high-quality technology training reserved for university students. This lack of opportunity in their educationsignificantly limits their job prospectsin an increasingly technology-driven world. Furthermore, thelack ofadequateinfrastructureand resources hinders their learning and skills development in these key areas.
Starting in 2020, in order to contribute to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), combat the impact of the gender digital divide and the resulting widening of social and economic inequalities, Hirondelle de l'AvenirandGenius Munahave createdtwo multimedia centersin Benin (in Porto-Novo and Tourou) with the aim of helping the 500 children already sponsored by Hirondelle de l'Avenir to develop their leadership and creativity through learning about IT and robotics.
Some digital professions do not require academic skills and can be learned after dropping out of school, which affects young girls in particular.
Our initiative thus enables many young girls to be introduced to these technologies from an early age.Mastering computer code, artificial intelligence, and roboticsis now becoming a necessity in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Admission to the centers is based ona competitive examthat primarily tests candidates'motivationandimagination. Once candidates have been selected, access to the center iscompletely free* for one school year. At the end of this year, it is possible to continue based on certain criteria.
